Stan Sperlak:South Jersey and the Skies Above

This show will mark Sperlak's first return to Millville since 2003. He works in pastel on various grounds, and is most noted for his boldly colorful paintings done on location throughout the Mid Atlantic. There will be several field studies in the show, but this show focuses mostly on works that are studio paintings derived from the many studies he does outdoors. His show opened on Third Friday, November 16th with a reception and met the artist. Sperlak will gave a short talk on his approach to pastel and these paintings. Below is the First of nine short video clips of his talk at the RRCA. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,

Loved Stan's talk. Learned a couple new things I can use in my work. Judy Scull

Last Saturday my husband Keith and I visited the Glasstown Art District for the first time. We had breakfast at the local diner, shopped the charming artists cottages where we chatted with the friendly proprietors and made some unique purchases for family and friends. We came to Millville that day with the express purpose of viewing Stan Sperlak’s Exhibit and perhaps choosing one of his works as a gift to each other in celebration of our 25th Anniversary. As it turned out, the work choose us, Keith gravitated toward ‘Over the Dunes’, and we were thrilled to acquire this piece in commemoration of that milestone in our history. I have been viewing Stan’s work online since June, and was excited to have the opportunity to see this collection of his works. My husband and I share Stan’s appreciation for the back bay, marshes and Delaware bay shoreline and are both glad to see this beautiful scene through his eyes and to give this to each other to enjoy every day.
This is the first piece of real art we have purchased together, and it won’t be the last…we will visit ‘Over the Dunes’ while it is still on exhibition, and will return to the Renaissance Center again to view the work of other artists. Keith & I loved your city; we walked around town, enjoyed the art, shops and the river walk, and ended our day with a fun lunch at the Old Oarhouse. The Arts District is a vibrant, romantic and inspiring place to spend the day. We are grateful to the visionaries who have made it possible for the arts to be a part of our lives and the Center for the Arts for bringing in phenomenal artists like Stan Sperlak.
